One By One VoIP Companies Adding 3G, Today It’s 8 x 8’s Turn
February 4th, 2010 admin
Ever since the iPad announcement we have seen one company after another make noise that their application is now able to make calls over 3G. First was iCall . Then along came Fring and today we have 8 x 8 making their’s. What I have yet to see though are any real time reviews that this is working perfectly in a mobile environment. My attempts with 3G VoIP are mixed. If I’m standing still and have really good connectivity the calls work, but when driving, the experience has been less than optimal. Of course this will improve, but I…

In my last post I discussed the benefits of utilizing wireless VoIP in both a WiFi environment and a cordless DECT environment. Both types provide users the freedom of mobility while still being able to have constant access to their telephone. Now we will look at how to go about designing and setting up a wireless This information was originally...
If there was one app I desperately wanted on my T-Mobile Blackberry Bold, it would be a good Mobile VoIP client that allowed me to make and receive calls over WiFi and 3G connections. It would have been even better if that client was made by Skype . Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. In fact, there hasn’t been a native mobile...
The PSTN still (believe it or not) has its place in today’s telecommunications world. With communications being the “beating heart” of your business, you certainly cannot afford to be without the ability to send and receive valuable phone calls. It is possible, with VoIP, that your network crashes or Internet connectivity can be lost. Meaning,...
It’s certainly true that IP telephony offers a much more robust telephony experience than traditional analog telephony. However that robust experience often comes with an upfront expense. So what if you’re not financially ready to invest in a VoIP PBX? You’ve still got options. VoIP Service providers most commonly offer SIP Trunking...
It’s more than about making calls on your mobile phone these days. Apps are playing a big role in how you manage things. Here are two new ones: Phone.com has launched their mobile office application. Client Ringio has a new Android application too that gives you a call center like experience on your Android Nexus One. Talk about putting the...
9 to 5 Mac asks why is Apple blocking VoIP on the iPhone. The question is asked, because it’s a proven fact that on jailbroken iPhones all the apps that can’t talk over 3G can talk if you use the right apps that fool the phone and the apps into thinking 3G is WiFi. When you do that, Skype, Fring, SipPhone (or whatever they call it now),...
Peter Sisson, the founder and chief executive officer of Toktumi , a San Francisco-based VoIP startup, is elated. He was jumping with joy when I spoke with him earlier today. Why? Because Apple just approved the latest version (2.0) of his company’s mobile VoIP app, Line2. The app, which costs 99 cents, allows you to call and receive phone...
Good news for client Truphone and others in the Mobile VoIP space. According to Frost & Sullivan , Mobile Voip is poised to overtake traditional telephone service. For longtime readers this won’t be a surprise. We’ve all been predicting, and supporting this for years. But Frost is not alone is saying Mobile VoIP is the future. Ovum,...
When it comes to mobile, time is literally money. Carriers like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and the rest make us pay based on how many minutes we use — or in the case of prepaid plans, expect to use. If we want to talk more, we can expect to pay more. But VoIP over 3G networks could drastically change that. Callers could place...
As a heavy user of Google Docs, both for work and personal activities, I was initially disappointed to see a lack of iPad support for the cloud-based productivity suite. Given the connectivity options of Wi-Fi or 3G, the large but portable display of the Apple’s device appears perfectly suited for light editing of Google Docs. Unfortunately,...
