Announcing Structure 2010, Our Internet Infrastructure & Cloud Computing Conference
March 12th, 2010 admin
Two years ago, we launched Structure , our conference devoted to Internet infrastructure and cloud computing. At the time, it was clear as a sunny California day that the Internet was entering a brand-new phase of growth that would see everything from pipes to routers to web services scale up, all thanks to digitization. The emergence of cloud-based services such as Amazon’s EC2 and S3 was the first sign of this big shift. Greg Papadopoulos (Sun) and Werner Vogels (Amazon) on stage at Structure…

Are standards on the way for the cloud? Our panelists agreed that in some cases standards...
GigaOM’s flagship conference, Structure, returns on June 23rd and 24th for two days of deep insight into the Cloud Computing industry. Taking place at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, Structure 2010 promises to be our best Structure conference yet. The $1.4 trillion IT market is undergoing a massive shake-up due to Cloud...
Vishal Sikka (SAP) joins Stacey onstage at Structure 2009. I can’t open my email these days without seeing a new cloud-based startup pitch (or three). Meanwhile, startups offering everything from platforms as a service to various ways to bridge hybrid clouds are raising venture capital (GigaOM Pro, sub req’d) after a fairly fallow...
Next month will see our cloud computing conference, Structure , return for its third year, which got me thinking about the impact of cloud computing on my web working. Coupled with the increase in Internet bandwidth, cloud computing has facilitated the development of many of the fantastic web apps that I use and love today as services like Amazon’s...
Computing is finally transitioning from a long-in-the-tooth, client-server paradigm to a network-centric one, and in the process opening up opportunities for companies that want to duke it out with incumbents such as Microsoft and Oracle. Among them is Palo Alto, Calif.-based VMware , which has made a fortune selling virtualization products under...
For the first time ever, I actually felt like I was at a conference even though I wasn’t. I’m referring to the GigaOm produced event called Structure 2010. Having attended the first two events, exceptionally staged by pal Surj Patel with key moderation by Om Malik, one of my regrets for traveling to Europe this past Friday was that I...
For all the talk about openness and interoperability in cloud computing, both public-cloud and private-cloud providers still operate very much in their own silos. Amazon, Rackspace, Google, Microsoft are all doing wonderful things — but they’re doing so largely within their own environments. And while (most) data center vendors can’t offer...
Azure , the cloud computing platform that Microsoft rolled out this week, could drive significant cloud revenues in 2010, as the company is more uniquely positioned to serve the needs of enterprise customers than any other large-scale cloud provider to date. Microsoft has been selling software to enterprises since its inception; it’s in...
Cloud services are booming, and Akamai is looking to capitalize on that growth by providing differentiated services based on its distributed network architecture. While it does offer optimization for cloud-based services, CEO Paul Sagan said that the provider would not seek to compete against Amazon and Rackspace to provide the same sort of bare...
Heading up the team at that’s responsible for Dell’s server products, Forrest Norrod leads a kind of startup within the PC giant’s organization. Other groups typically consider anything less than five-for-five record of success for any given project a failure. But Norrod said today that the Data Center Solutions team launched...
