Perhaps I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, but the upcoming Motorola Droid X that appears on Verizon’s site has me a little bored with the current wave of “superphones,” as Om likes to call them. That’s not a knock against the new Droid specifically — the device is improved over its predecessor — but most of the changes are evolutionary, not revolutionary. That got me thinking about these superphones in general, as the newest features in recent top-end smartphones are also evolutionary. Where are the monumental improvements in today’s phones, like we saw with the capacitive display of the first Apple iPhone (AAPL) or from the introduction of Qualcomm’s 1 GHz Snapdragon (QCOM)? Google's Android "Demolishes&q...According to technology blog Ars Technica, Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system significantly outperforms Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) latest iteration of their mobile platform, called iOS4 in terms of JavaScript performance. Ars writes, "Android 2.2 demolishes iOS4 in JavaScript benchmarks...The results show that the Android device delivers significantly faster JavaScript execution than the iPhone, scoring over three times better on V8 and almost twice as fast on SunSpider." News Update: Apple iOS4 (iPhone 4)...Reporting on the latest developments from the World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Steve Jobs continues to fill us in on the details of Apple's newest product the iPhone 4 - OR - as Jobs has just informed us, the official new name for this product... the iOS4. The latest - we now can see images of the inside of the phone. Most noticable is the larger battery and the Micro SIM. The phone can hold up to 32GB which is the same capacity as the 3GS model. The phone has better motion sensing - it's got a 3 axis gyroscope, which is new, and it joins motion features that were included on older models. These specs are important to gamers, and are useful for GPS as well. Jobs moving on to the cameras in the phone. As we reported earlier there will be a rear and front facing lense. The camera has been upgraded from a 3 to a 5 megapixel sensor with a backside illuminated sensor. The LED flash, tap to focus as well as digital zoom will improve photographs . And the video camera will be HD, with built in editing. Very basic editing was available on older models, but on this phone you will be able to use iMovie for iPhone which will allow for much greater on-the-go editing capability. The app costs $4.99 and allows users to add transitions and titles, view keyframes, and more. That's the latest from the World Wide Developers Conference.
